Support For Going ‘Smoke-free’

Ards and North Down Borough Councils welcome Sarah Greenaway as their new Smoke-free Environments Officer. Sarah will work with businesses and ‘enclosed public spaces’, such as community centres, shopping centres and church halls, offering practical information and support to help with the implementation of the new smoke-free legislation.

Describing her role within the Environmental Health Service, Sarah said “I will be dealing with requests for advice and information from businesses regarding introduction of the legislation, these might include the provision of smoking areas, for example and I will also undertake some compliance monitoring visits.” “It is important that the public continue to help ensure the long-term success of this significant piece of public health legislation, smoke-free breaches can be reported confidentially through the smoke-free compliance line on 0845 603 2500 or to the Council directly,” she added.

For more information or to obtain advice on a specific smoke-free issue, businesses should contact Sarah Greenaway, or any of the Environmental Health Officers, at Ards Borough Council, Tel: 028 9182 4052,
E: sarah.greenaway@ards-council.gov.uk.
