Rotary District Governor Visits Comber

District Governor Ray Cosgrave visited the Rotary Club of Comber recently and addressed a full attendance of members outlining plans for his year in office. The main themes for Rotary in Ireland this year under the Rotary world banner of “ROTARY SHARES” are: -

• Maintaining and increasing membership
• Supporting the Rotary Foundation and specifically Project ROMBO

District Governor Ray reminded members that The Rotary Foundation, is Rotary’s only charity and has over the last 90 years has funded international Rotary club and district projects to improve the quality of life, providing health care, clean water, food, education, and other essential needs primarily in the developing world. One of the major Humanitarian Programs is PolioPlus, which seeks to eradicate the poliovirus worldwide. Through its Educational Programmes, the Foundation provides funding for some 1,200 students to study abroad each year. Grants are also awarded to university teachers to teach in developing countries and for exchanges of business and professional people.

District Governor Ray advised members that a Group Study exchange with the Northern Territories Rotary District in Australia is planned and will provide aid to East Timor which is part of the Northern Territories Rotary District, skilled non-rotary volunteers are being sought to participate in this programme.

District Governor Ray thanked the Members of the Rotary Club of Comber for their hospitality and wished the Club well in all their projects
