Comber Connects To Gas

Residents at the Mill village development in Comber have celebrated being the first householders in the town to be connected to the newly extended natural gas network. Senior figures from the gas industry this week joined local elected representatives at the Mill to mark the significant occasion with a breakfast launch.

Addressing those present Phoenix Group Chief Executive Peter Dixon said:
“We are delighted that the people of Comber will now have access to an alternative energy source that is more efficient and more environmentally friendly than other fossil fuels. Almost every new home in our licence area is being built with a connection to natural gas, and it is to his credit that the developer here had the vision to pre-prepare his site for gas even before the network was extended”.

Phoenix officials were also able to reveal that around 500 properties had already been identified for the switch to natural gas, and that this included 8 new build sites and the local Primary School.

Iris Robinson MP MLA stated that the network extension was “no mean feat” and commended Phoenix on the professional manner in which they had dealt with any concerns she and her party colleagues may have had around the construction side of the project. She stated further that:
“This project represents a multi-million pound investment by Phoenix and is a reflection of the company’s confidence in the town which continues to feel the benefits of regeneration, not least with the development in which we have met today”.

It is believed that Phoenix will consult with the Utility Regulator on the possibility of extending the gas network further again, possibly to Downpatrick.
