News Release
15 January 2007
The first meeting in 2007 of the Ards’ local policing body is also to be the first chaired by its new Chairman.
Councillor Ronnie Ferguson will oversee the discussion on current policing issues and the responses to questions raised by members of the public, when the Ards District Policing Partnership (DPP) meets in Ballygowan at the end of January.
“I’m looking forward to my first meeting as Chairman and would urge local people, both from Ballygowan itself and from the wider Ards area, to raise their policing concerns with us in advance. We can then ensure the local District Commander is not only aware of the current issues, but can also provide information on efforts to tackle those issues,” said Councillor Ferguson. “These meetings are one of the key ways in which local people can influence how policing is delivered and I would encourage residents to use them to their best advantage”.
The main functions of the Ards District Policing Partnership are to:
Provide views to the police District Commander and to the Policing Board on any matter concerning the policing of the district
Monitor the performance of the police in carrying out the Annual Policing Plan as it relates to the district and the local Policing Plan for the district
Make arrangements for obtaining the views of the public about matters concerning the policing of the district and the co-operation of the public with the police in preventing crime
Act as a general forum for discussion and consultation on matters affecting the policing of the district.
The next DPP meeting will be held on Monday 29th January 2007 at 7:30pm in Ballygowan Community Hall. Anyone who would like further information should contact the DPP office at Ards Borough Council
